What Does a Stock Analysis Tool Evaluate?

A stock analysis tool can organize market data and multiple analytical signals into a structured research view. Rather than relying on a single indicator, a quantitative research system can compare trend, momentum, volatility, market regime, technical quality and risk/reward at the same time. For the broader methodology behind turning market data into systematic filters, scores and rankings, see our quantitative stock analysis guide.

On StockScreen.art, MarketEngine™ applies that approach to individual U.S. stocks. The goal is not to predict the market with certainty. It is to make stock research more consistent by showing the evidence behind an opportunity assessment, including expected upside, quality, confidence and defined risk/reward levels. For a broader explanation of how artificial intelligence can be used in stock research, see our AI stock analysis guide.

What is MarketEngine™?

MarketEngine™ is the research engine behind StockScreen.art's stock analysis tool for individual U.S. stocks. It evaluates trend, momentum, market regime, technical quality, expected upside, confidence, probability and risk/reward levels to help self-directed investors organize stock research more efficiently.

MarketEngine™ is designed for educational investment research and structured decision support. It does not provide personal financial advice, but it can help users compare technical conditions and identify setups that may deserve further independent review.

What questions can MarketEngine™ help answer?

MarketEngine™ is designed to support common stock research questions that self-directed investors often ask before deciding whether a ticker deserves deeper review.

MarketEngine™ methodology

MarketEngine™ uses a structured technical research process instead of relying on a single indicator. Each analysis evaluates multiple signals and summarizes them into an opportunity recommendation, quality rating, expected upside, confidence, probability and risk/reward view.

Trend StructureCompares price behavior against short-term, intermediate and long-term moving averages. See our guide to technical indicators for stocks for the broader indicator framework.
MomentumReviews RSI, MACD and recent price strength to evaluate whether momentum supports the setup. For screening context, see how to screen stocks for momentum.
Market RegimeUses regime analysis as context for whether broader price behavior appears supportive, neutral or unfavorable. Read the Labs paper on AI market regime analysis for the deeper architecture.
Technical QualitySeparates the quality of the setup from the current opportunity timing.
Expected UpsideEstimates the percentage difference between current price and the model-generated target level.
Risk/RewardCompares potential reward against downside risk using entry, target and stop-loss levels. The Foundation lesson on risk-reward ratio in trading explains the underlying planning concept.

How MarketEngine™ Performs Technical & Quantitative Stock Analysis

MarketEngine™ analyzes one stock at a time and turns multiple technical inputs into a structured stock analysis view. It helps self-directed investors evaluate technical strength, expected upside, market regime, quality rating and risk/reward levels without relying on any single indicator.

Each analysis reviews market data such as recent price action, trend direction, momentum, moving average behavior, volatility, technical quality and broader market regime signals. These inputs are summarized into an opportunity assessment, quality rating, confidence score, probability estimate, expected upside and structured risk/reward levels.

Expected Upside and Opportunity Timing Buy and Strong Buy ratings require favorable technical conditions, meaningful expected upside and acceptable risk/reward characteristics.
Quality Rating Quality Rating separates the underlying technical quality of a stock from whether the current setup has enough upside to qualify as a Buy.
Risk/Reward Research Entry, target and stop-loss levels are designed to help users compare potential reward, downside risk and expected upside before making their own independent decisions.

What does Expected Upside mean?

Expected upside estimates the percentage difference between the current stock price and the model-generated target level. MarketEngine™ uses expected upside together with technical quality and risk/reward analysis to determine whether a setup qualifies as Buy, Strong Buy, Quality Hold or Hold.

Expected upside is not a guarantee or prediction. It is a structured research metric designed to help users compare whether a technical setup offers enough potential reward relative to its risk level.

Understanding Opportunity Recommendation vs. Technical Quality

The recommendation reflects opportunity timing. A Buy or Strong Buy generally requires supportive technical signals, meaningful expected upside and acceptable risk/reward. A Quality Hold means the stock has strong technical quality characteristics, but current upside does not meet the stricter Buy or Strong Buy threshold.

The Quality Rating is separate. It summarizes the underlying technical quality of the setup using trend structure, moving averages, volatility, momentum, relative strength and recent price behavior. This helps distinguish a high-quality stock with limited near-term upside from a weaker or neutral Hold.

Use Technical Stock Analysis as Part of a Broader Investment Research Process

Technical analysis can help investors organize price behavior, momentum and trend information, but it should not be the only input in an investment decision. Earnings announcements, company fundamentals, interest rates, news events, sector conditions and market sentiment can all affect stock prices.

StockScreen.art is best used as an educational investment research starting point. You can analyze an individual ticker with MarketEngine™, review broader market intelligence on the homepage, and use AlphaEngine™ to explore weekly quantitative stock rankings and higher-conviction investment opportunities.
